sfiaaf re-cap

so i haven't had much time to post and part of that is because i was pretty busy going to screenings for the 27th annual san francisco international asian-american film festival, which took place from 12 march to 19 march. all in all, i saw a tremendous amount of films - some good, some bad - par for the course in any film festival. my least favorite was The Panda Candy (an entry from China) and other than mentioning the title, i can't go into detail because just thinking about it makes me want to hurl - it's another typical male director doing a typical girlxgirl film. argh...

and even though Korea's My Dear Enemy got panned, i actually enjoyed it for the playful yet sometimes tense interactions between our two main leads and yes, it was really slow paced but it worked for me - i think if you liked Before Sunset (which i loved), you'll like My Dear Enemy.

i did indeed take A. to Opening Night and to the Gala afterward at the Asian Art Museum. and while there were some uncomfortable moments, we forged on and tried to enjoy the evening as best we could - gossip had already started way before and by Closing Night on the 19th, there was a lot of talk around me, who i was with and are we sleeping together - you know, that kind of stupid talk. these things shouldn't matter - they don't matter - and it's obviously no one's business but it gets in the way sometimes no matter how hard i try to separate work and personal life. it's tough.
